I never considered myself as a poet or a writer for that matter but this year has been a very creative year for me. I have written 9 children’s books. I illustrated and self published two of them and sent my novella off to publishers. Fingers crossed I hear back from them soon.
I have found that having children has really inspired me to write, especially when we are out exploring nature. I look at my monkeys exploring the natural environment around them and wonder what they are thinking about, this is when I come up with poems.
Below are three poems which I have recently written. They may not be perfect as I have no idea how to actually write a poem. But I thought I would share them with you.
Do you like to write stories or poems about the adventures that you go on?
Hands in gloves, boots on feet,
What will we see? Who will we meet?
Walking in the woods on a cold autumnal day,
The ground is wet and the sky is grey.
Kicking up leaves with our Wellington boots,
Picking up sticks and pretending they are flutes.
Robins, squirrels, mushrooms and trees,
Walking in the woods just mummy and me.
A secret place, a wild space a sight that is kind.
Toads and Frogs, Newts on logs, a Fox or BumbleBee?
An owl, A snake, A lily pad lake or maybe an old oak tree.
So take a peek, little one. See that magic view.
Because this world, these creatures are all very new to one as small as you.
