I never considered myself as a poet or a writer for that matter but this year has been a very creative year for me. I have written 9 children’s books. I illustrated and self published two of them and sent my novella off to publishers. Fingers crossed I hear back from them soon.

I have found that having children has really inspired me to write, especially when we are out exploring nature. I look at my monkeys exploring the natural environment around them and wonder what they are thinking about, this is when I come up with poems.

Below are three poems which I have recently written. They may not be perfect as I have no idea how to actually write a poem. But I thought I would share them with you.

Do you like to write stories or poems about the adventures that you go on?

Mummy and Me

Hands in gloves, boots on feet,
What will we see? Who will we meet?
Walking in the woods on a cold autumnal day,
The ground is wet and the sky is grey.
Kicking up leaves with our Wellington boots,
Picking up sticks and pretending they are flutes.
Robins, squirrels, mushrooms and trees,
Walking in the woods just mummy and me.
Take A Peak LittleBy Kelly Robinson (Nature mum blog15045673_10157839992285599_297008102_n

Take a peak around the corner to see if you can find,
A secret place, a wild space a sight that is kind.
Toads and Frogs, Newts on logs, a Fox or BumbleBee?
An owl, A snake, A lily pad lake or maybe an old oak tree.
So take a peek, little one. See that magic view.
Because this world, these creatures are all very new to one as small as you.

  1. Awww, this is so lovely. Sometimes the most simple things in life are the most beautiful, and you’ve really captured the magic of going for a walk with your daughter! Angharad ☺️

  2. I love the poems – I used to write songs when I was younger, now I can’t rhyme to save my life! Fab post #chasingnature

    1. I didn’t know I could rhyme until I sat down to write a children’s book in January and now I just love to sit and write. Give it a go, never know that creative spark might come back!

  3. Lovely poems – I specially like the first one. When in spired I also write nature inspired poetry so maybe I’ll add some of mine to a later #ChasingNature Thanks for hosting this lovely linky.

  4. In my opinion, there is no right or wrong way to write poetry. It is just something that comes out of your heart and soul. My sister in law is always teasing me about the songs and poems that I make up for Squishy and I, half the time I don’t even realize I’m doing it.

  5. They are gorgeous poems, I really like the video as well. Such a great idea! I love writing but just don’t have the time nor the concentration to do too much now! #ChasingNature
